With a vintage authentic New Zealand Half Penny at the center, these unique bracelets are sure to turn heads with their touch of history and kiwiana.
The New Zealand Half Penny was designed by New Zealand artist Leonard Cornwall Mitchell, and were officially issued in 1940, although they first circulated in December 1939.
The halfpenny features a hei tiki (Māori neck pendant) with ornamental scrolls to either side.
The words 'NEW ZEALAND HALF PENNY' surround the hei-tiki, with the date below.
The hei-tiki /heɪˈtiki/ is an ornamental pendant of the Māori of New Zealand. Hei-tiki are usually made of pounamu (greenstone), and are considered a taonga (treasure) by Māori. They are commonly called tiki by New Zealanders, a term that actually refers to large human figures carved in wood, and, also, to the small wooden carvings used to mark sacred places. (The word hei in Māori can mean "to wear around the neck".)
