38 x 22 x 11 cm
This handwoven bag/kete is created from natural un-dyed New Zealand flax.
The leaves are harvested. Each flax strip is then removed from the green leaf then selected and softened. All this before being carefully woven into this kete/bag. Handles are cut from recycled t-shirts (soft pink and purple), these have been twined and then stitch onto the kete.
The leaves are harvested. Each flax strip is then removed, selected and softened; and all this before being carefully woven into this kete/bag. Handles are plaited on and then the completed bag is dried to shape. The woven NZ Flax flower or putiputi has been dyed a soft dusky pink, leaves of woven flax have been added and then wired and stitched onto the body. The embellishment is only on one side of the handbag.
This kete measures 38 cm along the base, the body is 22 cm tall (with handles 45cm) and a width of 11cm. (15” x 9“ or 18” with handles x 4 ½ “)
The inspiration of this kete is natural and from nature.
This is a unique artwork; there will never be another one like it.
I have been weaving for more than 30 years and enjoy the creative process as each piece comes into being.
